How An Impromptu Opportunity To Play Led To A Regular Booking

In the middle of August I met a friend for lunch who happened to be staying at the Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Knutsford, Cheshire.

As we were walking into the restaurant, my eye was naturally drawn to the grand piano situated near the entrance. I had an urge to go and play it, so encouraged by my friend, I asked if I could speak with the Assistant Manager to gain permission.  He was quite surprised by this request and said I would need my own sheet music. I simply smiled and replied, ‘I don’t need any music’.

So my friend asked me to play her favourite piece ‘A Million Dreams’ from the musical film, The Greatest Showman.

Here is her recording (excuse the casual attire – it was a casual lunch!):

The Assistant Manager stayed to chat with my friend whilst I played, but soon stopped talking as he was drawn to listening to my playing instead. At the end of the performance, not only did he applaud, but so did many of the guests both within the coffee area and restaurant too.

He than asked me if I would be interested in playing regularly at the restaurant.

From September, I have been playing twice monthly, usually between 7pm and 10pm, on either a Friday or a Sunday evening.  The feedback has been amazing both from the guests and the staff.

It just goes to show that sometimes you have to make the most of an opportunity.  Whilst I am very confident when it comes to performing in public, it was the act of asking permission to play which took me out of my comfort zone.

If you looking for a chance to hear me play live, then why not contact Browns Restaurant at the Mere Resort (01565 830155) to find out when I will next be there and pop along to enjoy the music and their fabulous food?
